Introducing Our New Coaches

Boys and Girls Middle and High School Cross Country: Head Coach Dave Houle

We are excited to welcome Dave Houle to lead our cross country program! Named by USA Today as “The Most Successful High School Coach in America,” Coach Houle’s teams won 69 state championships and nine national titles in his 29 years coaching at the high school level (a national record that still stands today). Coach Houle has led teams to state titles in cross country, basketball, and track and field. He won BYU’s Dale Rex Memorial Award, which is given to the person contributing most to amateur athletics in Utah. He is a member of the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame.

Girls Varsity Basketball: Head Coach Madi Foster

Please join us in welcoming our new AHS girls varsity head basketball coach, Madi Foster. All who meet Coach Foster comment on the light and love she carries with her, which you will all see as soon as you have the chance to get together with Coach Foster.

Coach Foster played basketball at Wenatchee Valley College in Washington state before leaving to serve a Spanish-speaking LDS mission in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Prior to college, she played four years of varsity basketball at Uintah High School in Vernal, Utah, as well as three years of club basketball with the Natalie Williams Basketball Academy. Coach Foster worked directly with 4-time WNBA All-Star Natalie Williams, who was both her coach and personal trainer for the three years she was in the program.

Girls Varsity Volleyball: Head Coach Kelsie Mendenhall

We are grateful and pleased to announce Kelsie Mendenhall has accepted the role of new girls volleyball head coach! Coach Mendenhall brings decades of volleyball experience to this position and has been the boys VB assistant coach for the past two seasons. Coach Mendenhall coached high school volleyball in Henderson, NV for three years and club volleyball for two years.

Register My Athlete is now open!

All AHS students in grades 9–12 hoping to participate on a school team must be registered in Register My Athlete. There is no need to wait—get registered now!

5 Steps to Join an Athletic Team at AHS

  1. Get a current sports physical/health exam. This Health Exam and Consent Form may be taken to your physician for them to sign.
    1. For UHSAA sports teams, the health exam must be dated on or after March 10th for the upcoming school year and should be completed before tryouts.
    2. For non-UHSAA sports teams, the health exam must be dated within a year from the start of the sports season to be valid and should be completed before tryouts.
  2. Register your athlete
    1. For UHSAA teams –  registration is at RegisterMyAthlete.  You will need to create an account or login if you already have an account. This is where you will upload your health exam and consent form, a birth certificate, and complete other registration forms required for participation.
    2. For non-UHSAA teams – athletes will need to upload their health exam here: Completed Health Exam Upload (Only for Non-UHSAA players*) Print these forms, fill them out and turn them into your coach.
      1. AHS Honor Code
      2. Participant Waiver
      3. Commitment Form
      4. Uniform Policy Commitment Form
  3. Attend tryouts. Tryouts enable coaches to evaluate athlete talent and assign players to an appropriate team, get to know the players, and begin establishing relationships with the athletes. Often there is no gap between tryouts and when practices begin. Cross Country and Track & Field do not have official tryouts as they primarily rely on individual performance and time trials. Team selection will be announced by the coach following tryouts
  4. Make payment
    1. All athletes for every league can pay via Payment Links on Veracross. Payment may be made after tryouts are completed and team rosters have been created.
    2. Team schedules will be found on the Veracross calendar and will also be communicated to families through the coach. Teams usually create a “team chat” using apps like Ollie, GroupMe, or WhatsApp where the most up-to-date information is shared.
  5. Attend the parent meeting. Parents should make every effort to attend the parent meeting at the beginning of the season.
