Varsity Girls Tennis

• Update from Coach Butler: Last week the girls tennis team took the courts at Liberty Park to fight for the varsity region title and the JV tournament title. Each of the varsity girls won their first matches of the day keeping them in the winner’s bracket. The second varsity matches of the day had Chloe Rucker, Leah Ortega, Grace Davis, Sophie Allred, Anna Beckwith, and Annie Bott winning to move on to the championship match the next day. Each championship match found our girls playing against the long-time region favorite, Judge Memorial. The girls put up a really good fight in each of the matches, leaving it all on the court and earning the Patriots a 2nd place varsity finish.

The girls on the JV team also participated in a region tournament in which Anna Eggertsen, Brekyn Larkin, Ruthie Bott, and Gracie Bott won their matches to help earn our team first place!

Each of the girls on the team did a phenomenal job and we are excited to take the courts for the State Championships this weekend.

Middle School Boys and Girls Cross Country

From Coach Houle: The boys’ team is mostly 7th and 6th graders, and they always finish with a lot of heart. They are starting to improve times and some are showing up in the top 20 of the races. We look forward to seeing what they can do going forward.

The middle school girls’ are making quite an impression as well, and some of our 7th graders are finishing in the top 10 regularly. Our middle school girls have often placed in their grade division, too (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place). The last meet saw many of the girls improving on their personal times, some as many as 3-4 minutes from previous times.

As all the runners are getting stronger, and more mentally tough, they are prepping for the championship races that will be held at Art Dye part on October 2nd. Keep your eyes on this team! They are going places! (And come run with us next year!)

Register My Athlete is open for basketball season!

All AHS students in grades 9–12 hoping to participate on a school team must be registered in Register My Athlete. There is no need to wait—get registered now!

5 Steps to Join an Athletic Team at AHS

  1. Get a current sports physical/health exam. This Health Exam and Consent Form may be taken to your physician for them to sign.
    1. For UHSAA sports teams, the health exam must be dated on or after March 10th for the upcoming school year and should be completed before tryouts.
    2. For non-UHSAA sports teams, the health exam must be dated within a year from the start of the sports season to be valid and should be completed before tryouts.
  2. Register your athlete
    1. For UHSAA teams –  registration is at RegisterMyAthlete.  You will need to create an account or login if you already have an account. This is where you will upload your health exam and consent form, a birth certificate, and complete other registration forms required for participation.
    2. For non-UHSAA teams – athletes will need to upload their health exam here: Completed Health Exam Upload (Only for Non-UHSAA players*) Print these forms, fill them out and turn them into your coach.
      1. AHS Honor Code
      2. Participant Waiver
      3. Commitment Form
      4. Uniform Policy Commitment Form
  3. Attend tryouts. Tryouts enable coaches to evaluate athlete talent and assign players to an appropriate team, get to know the players, and begin establishing relationships with the athletes. Often there is no gap between tryouts and when practices begin. Cross Country and Track & Field do not have official tryouts as they primarily rely on individual performance and time trials. Team selection will be announced by the coach following tryouts
  4. Make payment
    1. All athletes for every league can pay via Payment Links on Veracross. Payment may be made after tryouts are completed and team rosters have been created.
    2. Team schedules will be found on the Veracross calendar and will also be communicated to families through the coach. Teams usually create a “team chat” using apps like Ollie, GroupMe, or WhatsApp where the most up-to-date information is shared.
  5. Attend the parent meeting. Parents should make every effort to attend the parent meeting at the beginning of the season.
