Mr. DeBirk's physics classes' balsa wood bridges were required to be less than 95 grams in mass (0.2 lbs) and had to hold a stack of chemistry textbooks, each weighing 5.5 lbs. On average, each bridge held 10 books, or 55 lbs., with the top bridge (Jared Stonehocker and Ellie Maughan) holding 40 books, a whopping 208 lbs. and a school record! That's 552 times their weight on average, with the top team holding 1,558 times its weight.
