“Thesis is an extremely hard subject. Mr. Hancock makes it interesting and bearable as he breaks it down into comprehensible chunks of class and homework.”
“He has been instrumental in [my daughter’s] development as a critical thinker and a writer. He has created a safe place for her to ask questions and explore. His teaching style and sense of humor have helped her love to learn.”
“The subject is pretty interesting, but this is my favorite class. He teaches with real world examples and includes current events and lets us discuss more than he lectures.”
“To [my sons], 9th grade was a turning point in their education. Yes, they had to work hard, but [Mr. Hancock] had a way of motivating them to want to do their best…”
“He presents the information in a way that we can understand, and talks to us almost like it’s a one-on-one conversation, making sure we know he cares and wants to help us.”
“He is funny and he pushes me. He pushes me past my expectations and motivates me while I do it. He also helps me with what I’m doing and is willing to listen to me …”
Hobbies — I am a woodworker, bookbinder, cook and baker, gardener, filmmaker, father, and grandfather. My largest hobby, however, is reading.
Education — Bachelors of Science, English, Brigham Young University; Juris Doctor, Law, Brigham Young University
Curriculum Highlight — My favorite thing to teach is J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. This book is a beautiful story full of rich symbolism. The story is meaningful to both me and my students. Each year I ask my students if I should continue to teach the book. Without fail, the students respond with an enthusiastic “Yes.”
“I hope to leave a legacy of students who have a better understanding of ancient history and a love for all kinds of reading and learning.”

An Experience That Prepared Me to Teach at AHS
I love to try and make a difference in the lives of the students with whom I interact. I love to watch the lights come on in their eyes and to see them develop a better understanding and appreciation for the subjects that I teach.
