Student Interactions — Every day something happens that warms my heart. I love the students coming back and telling me of their successes.
Fun Memory — My first year of teaching several little girls got together after school and made me a gigantic fold out poster with drawings of a barn, cat, dog, horses, pigs. On the poster, the children had written, “Of all the animals in the barn, you’re the nicest one on the farm.”
What Brought you to AHS? — I was brought to AHS by no less than a miracle!
Education — Bachelor of Science, Nursing, Utah Valley University
Why Teaching? — When I was completing my BSN one of my friends asked me what I really wanted to do with my life. I answered after some thought that I wanted to help children read because I knew reading is the key that unlocks living a full life. I felt the spirit flood my entire body. So I chose teaching, but God really chose where I was to work and the timing of my employment.
Why AHS? — AHS is the only school I could teach in because at my core is a desire to bring others to Christ. It is the only school I know of that has a mission statement of assisting parents in preparing the minds hearts and bodies of children to be useful in the hands of the Lord.
Family — We have raised eight children–5 boys, 3 girls. My husband is a master electrician with his own business. We have seven married children and 20 beautiful, perfect grandchildren. We live on a little farm. We have one acre, but our children have had access to 12 acres that belongs to my parents. Our children have been raised working, fishing, hiking and camping. We grow a large garden every year. Our children have traveled all over the United States. As a family we believe that the best way to know history is to experience it. We have had many different pets over the years. We have had parakeets, rats, mice, lizards, llamas, pigs, ducks, geese, chickens, guinea hens, goats.
Treasured Memory — One of our treasured family experiences was our participation in the Nauvoo Pageant.

An Experience That Prepared Me to Teach at AHS
My husband and I have eight children. I was an RN when we first married, but chose to stay home to raise our children. My husband and I chose to home-school our children when our fourth son was having difficulty learning to read in first grade. The experience of helping him, led me/us on a path that changed my/our life forever. I began reading books, attending classes, praying, searching. The answer was to home school and to start piano, violin, classical guitar and viola lessons. Most of the children wanted to work with me at home. Our family embarked on a 20 year life changing adventure that taught me some eternal truths:
- Parents are their child’s best advocate.
- Every child can, but it takes CONSISTENT, DEDICATED work following a carefully laid out plan.
- God doesn’t answer our prayers right away. Many of the best answers to prayer come in the struggle of doing.
My son learned to read with a lot of HARD work. He served a successful mission to Belgium, completed a master’s degree in business, has a wonderful family and a wonderful job at Hill Air Force Base.
