Why do you love teaching at AHS? — I love being able to share principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a love of our inspired Constitution with students. I work with wonderful people who share a love of truth and freedom. I also learn so much from my students!
What have you learned at AHS? — I’ve learned to rely on the spirit, the unity of the first grade team, the support of colleagues, and the dependability of others. I’ve learned to have a life-long love of learning!
Curriculum Highlight — I love Carlo Collodi’s story of Pinocchio. When we read that book together, we learn that no one is perfect – but as long as we keep trying and learning something from our mistakes and improve a little more each day, we’re on the right track!
Why Teaching? — My patriarchal blessing told me that’s what my Heavenly Father wanted me to do. So I guess it chose me!
What do you love about teaching 1st grade? — I love when a light goes on for a student, or a spark flares, or the desire to learn burns inside. First grade is a time of huge leaps in understanding and knowledge. As students begin to realize how things work, interconnect, and react, it’s really fulfilling to be a part of that excitement!
Family — I’m married to my best friend, Jeff and have 6 wonderful children and 10 amazing grandchildren. We enjoy the holidays together, especially eating delicious food and taking part in fun family traditions!
Hobbies — I love reading, sewing, swimming, camping, and temple work. I also enjoy gardening, riding my motorcycle, scuba diving & snorkeling, traveling, reupholstering/refinishing furniture, boating, water/snow skiing, and spending time with family. Years ago, I did some modeling, learned to surf and to hang glide, and worked for the Feds. I still want to learn how to pilot an aircraft, to paint, to dance, and Jeff and I are looking forward to serving several missions after retirement!
“I hope that every student with whom I have influence, realizes they are valued, loved, safe and able to accomplish anything with the help of the Lord.”

Life Experience That Prepared Me To Teach at AHS
I didn’t have a positive experience in first grade and I believe it affected my attitude toward school for many years. I wouldn’t want any child to feel that way about school, their teachers, or learning. My eighth grade science teacher was very positive and encouraging. I knew then, I could do almost anything. I want to be a positive influence to students.
