What have you learned at AHS? — I’ve learned that when good people unite for a good cause, miracles happen and doors are opened.
Student Interaction — I love it when they tell me that I am pretty or they call me mom. I know our relationship has reached a whole new level of love and comfort when I am mistakenly referred to as “mom” and sometimes (cough) grandma.
Teaching Kindergarten — I especially love to teach children to read because it gives me goosebumps when the light comes on, it is a miraculous experience to witness.
Curriculum Highlight — I love teaching “His” story and helping the children learn about how each event in history was necessary in order for other events to happen to bring forth the establishment of America and the restoration of the gospel. I love the rich literature, especially Winnie the Pooh, Peter Rabbit and Little House in the Big Woods. I love watching the children hang at the edge of their seats as they are able to engage with the stories and look forward to the celebrations that follow.
Education — Bachelor of Science, Elementary Education, Brigham Young University
What Brought you to AHS? — We heard so many great things about AHS from so many people we respected and so we thought we’d see for ourselves. We thought, “can it really be that good?” Yes, it is! We moved to Highland from Heber so our family could attend AHS.
Why is AHS unique for you? — AHS is unique because of the people, curriculum and the spirit. It just feels safe, warm and inviting. It feels like home away from home. We also have a lot of FUN and feel united as a faculty and school community.
Family — We have been blessed with one daughter and one son, it wasn’t easy to get them here, but they both are our miracles. Our family loves to travel-anywhere and everywhere. As soon as one vacation is over, we are planning the next one. In our free time we love to play games, eat large amounts of popcorn and chocolate, sit in the hot tub and have family chats, and just be present!
“I hope that the children I teach know that I love them, I love the gospel and I love the founding principles of American government. I hope they know that I believe in them and they will accomplish anything they desire through hard work, courage, and faith. I hope they feel like my classroom was safe, fun and inviting.”

An Experience That Prepared Me to Teach at AHS
I knew from a young age that I wanted to teach and it has been confirmed to me many times through various experiences in my life. I always had a classroom in the basement of our home and I taught the whole neighborhood, then I tutored neighbor children through High School as an after school job. When I went to BYU, I knew that I would study education and I had wonderful opportunities and co-hort and student teaching experiences that helped me to gain the skills, insights and experiences to prepare me for the classroom.
I also thought that I would stay home and be a full-time mother once I had children and then through a series of events, life led me down a path to be able to teach my own child in my own classroom at AHS. What a blessing it has been to be teaching in the school where my children attend. Dreams do come true and miracles happen! American Heritage richly blesses our family and I am grateful every day.
