Why teaching? — I love the ability to talk about realities–temporal and spiritual, alike–without the typical boundaries we’re so used to in society. I’m passionate about helping kids realize their own potential and worth and think both history and English are ideally suited to that end.
Curriculum Highlight — History uses the timeline of Christ for teaching the ages of the world. We begin with the pre-mortal life, and end with the Second Coming of Christ. Whatever subject we are talking about, language arts, geography, math, etc., we relate to the scriptures, timeline, or gospel principles. At American Heritage, we learn of Christ, and we rejoice in Christ.
Why do you love teaching? — I love both English and history because I can’t read books fast enough. I grew up in an older neighborhood not far from where American Heritage stands now. At the time, it was a very elderly neighborhood and was riddled with World War II veterans. I became obsessed with their stories and what had seemed like dry, black-and-white history became incredibly real to me. Because of those men and women willing to share their experiences with me, I’ve been able to see the past in a much more holistic, three-dimensional way.
What Life Experience prepared you to teach at AHS? — I’ve worked with kids in many different capacities for several years. As an aquatics director for the BSA, my favorite thing was to take individuals who were struggling and help them one-on-one. It’s incredible what five minutes of specific attention can do to help. I’m excited for the opportunity to lift the students, collectively and individually, in any way I can.

Family
My wife Chelsea is an incredible artist and as a former Disney Imagineer, has her art up in Disneyworld, Shanghai Disney, and Disneyland Tokyo, among other places. While Chelsea was studying animation at BYU, she fell in love with video games and is now FAR better than I am at them. When we have kids, they may have to compete with their mom for the Playstation!
