Why Are We Addressing This Topic?

Today, there are few communities and few families that do not include individuals who experience feelings of same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria. Many voices in the world clamor that these individuals simply cannot maintain connection to faithful families and communities. Is there a place for me in the Church? Is there a place for me in my family?

Our stance at AHS is simple: We have and will continue to follow a living prophet, we will carefully review Church policy and publications as we prioritize revealed knowledge above human knowledge, we will carefully inventory what we know and what we don’t know, and we will simultaneously uphold the complementary doctrines of Love and Law. We want all of God’s children to know that there is a place for them in His kingdom. The law of chastity remains a critical element of the school’s honor code, and we repeat that experiencing feelings does not put an individual at odds with the law of chastity.

Parents wishing to better understand What the school is doing, How the school is doing it, and Why the school is doing it are encouraged to review the video recording of the Love Thy Neighbor assembly from April 2023 after having read the email notice circulated to all parents of high school students before the assembly. Parents are welcome to reach out to school administration with questions if they wish to discuss further.
